The Universität Karlsruhe was founded in 1825 and is the oldest technical university in Germany. Today the university is among the best in Europe. Eleven faculties and 117 institutes as well as many central institutions give 18,000 students opportunities for a very appreciable theoretical and practical education. Approximately 20% of the student body are from foreign countries. The city of Karlsruhe was founded in 1715 and has approx. 270,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Rhine basin and borders on the Black Forest and to Alcace, France. This region has the highest number of researchers per capita in Germany.
